The lack of a comprehensive picture of sites affected by geohazards led to the conception of PROTHEGO, which will apply novel space technologies such as radar interferometry (InSAR), GNSS etc. to monitor monuments and sites in Europe which are inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List (WHL) and are potentially unstable due to geo-hazards.
In the frame of the PROTHEGO (Protection of European Cultural Heritage from Geo-Hazards) JPI project, the Laboratory of Geodesy (LoG) has begun the first phase of the establishment of a precise geodetic network to monitor the impact potential Geo-Hazards (i.e. landslides or earthquakes) would have on the Khirokitia Neolithic Settlement.
