Dr. Kyriaki Fotiou

Postdoctoral Researcher

Dr. Kyriaki A. Fotiou is a Researcher at the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics of the Cyprus University of Technology and a member of the CUT Laboratory of Geodesy and Hydrographic Surveying. She holds a BSc Degree in Survey Engineering and Geomatics and an MSc Degree, with distinction, in Geoinformation and Geospatial Technologies from the Cyprus University of Technology. She also holds a PhD in Remote Sensing, with a focus on the application of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and SAR Interferometry for monitoring active landslides and ground deformation. Dr. Fotiou contributes to national and European research projects related to Earth observation, natural hazards, ground deformation monitoring, and geospatial research infrastructures. She is actively involved in the operation and scientific exploitation of the Cyprus Continuously Operating Natural Hazards Monitoring and Prevention System (CyCLOPS), the development of the Cyprus Ground Motion Service, and research activities carried out within the EXCELSIOR and AI-OBSERVER projects. Previously, she worked as a Research Associate in the Planning Department of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus, where she was responsible for the collection, processing, and updating of geospatial data in an ArcGIS environment. She also worked as a trainee surveyor at the Department of Lands and Surveys of Cyprus, with responsibilities related to the updating of cadastral plans and the investigation and resolution of cadastral cases and discrepancies. Earlier, she completed a traineeship as a GIS Analyst at Marathon Data Systems in Greece. Dr. Fotiou is a registered member of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK) and serves as Secretary of the Cyprus Association of Surveying Engineers. Her research mainly focuses on Remote Sensing, particularly SAR satellite image processing, SAR Interferometry, active landslide and ground deformation monitoring, Geodesy, natural hazard assessment, and GIS applications.
