The Laboratory of Geodesy (LoG) of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) has undertaken the surveying of the University Farm located in Limassol district, at Lofou community, which will be used to meet the operational needs of the Department of Agricultural Sciences, Biotechnology and Food Science of the Faculty of Geotechnical Sciences and Environmental Management. Surveying operations were carried out using ground and airborne equipment with GNSS and UAVs respectively, to coordinate the ground targets, including existing buildings inside and outside the plot, elevations, and demarcation of the farm.
After collecting the required data, drawings illustrating the boundaries, a Digital Elevation Model (DEM), and contours map were created, before removing trees, bushes and debris, and right after the soil preparation. A 2D planting design for the vineyard and the orchard was created and plot. Moreover, a below ground and above ground irrigation system was designed and implemented, a trellis system for the vineyard was designed, and metal poles were placed with cm-level accuracy by means of GNSS RTK. Furthermore, vine growth monitoring was carried out using multispectral UAVs and vegetation indices were created for the different stages of the phenological cycle of grapevines. Moreover, specialized tasks, such as staking out trees and plantations, and lots allocation for future buildings were carried out with utmost precision.
